Thomas is an International Humanitarian Worker, Mentor and Author, with a track record of success in managing the implementation of humanitarian and development programmes in Yemen, Somalia, Cambodia and Uganda. He’s currently working with ZOA International, helping to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to thousands of vulnerable people affected by the on-going armed conflict in Yemen.
Thomas has previously worked in Somalia, leading the implementation of a multi-year DFID funded Health Systems Strengthening Programme, where University Medical Faculties and Nursing & Midwifery Training Institutions and Health Associations were supported to provide quality education, training and supportive supervision to hundreds of health workers with the ultimate goal of improving maternal and child health services in the country. In 2008, he took up an International Volunteer Placement with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) in Cambodia, working as Training & Management Advisor for a local Cambodian NGO. He co-founded Ponlok Khmer and introduced the concept of Village Savings & Loan Associations (VSLA), trained its staffs, and his wider organisation development efforts have made Ponlok Khmer a highly respected national NGO that continues to transform lives and fight for the vulnerable and indigenous people in Northern Cambodia Provinces.
He has also volunteered his time to build the capacity of local Non Governmental Organisations. In 2009 for example, he used his spare time while working on a malaria control programme in West Nile Uganda, to develop a Volunteer Policy and train staffs in different topical issues, for Rural Initiatives for Community Empowerment – West Nile (RICE-WN) and by 2017, the organisation had hosted more than 20 International Volunteers that have left an impact on its work. RICE-WN was also recognised in October 2018 by the United Nations in Uganda for its efforts towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
